I am going to share the details on a product line, RE9 Advanced™ RE9™, which is truly waging a war against time. And to do that, you need to know the enemy. I am going to share with you what the enemy is and I’m going to share with you skin care products that address that enemy.

Let’s look at the aging process and what our goal is. We want prevention and protection, which are key elements to a youthful appearance. To get this, we must take a comprehensive skin care approach that addresses both intrinsic and actinic aging factors.

So that’s what I’m going to share with you today: how do we wage the war against time. Let’s look at intrinsic aging. Intrinsic aging is simply the ticking of the clock. It’s time. It is immutable law of the universe that matter deteriorates. So from the minute we are born to the minute we die, we are in a constant state of deterioration. Now I know that doesn’t sound very exciting, but that’s what’s going on. The interesting statistic there is that only 10% of the aging that we see is a by-product of the ticking of the clock.

So when you look at the 10%, what’s happening? Well, collagen and elastin production – that’s what gives our skin that flex, that firm look and appearance, collagen and elastin production slows down 65% between the ages of 20 and 80. Skin thins 6% every 10 years. So what that means is that its ability to hold water diminishes and that’s where you lose that supple appearance. It gets thin, it can’t retain and hold moisture, nor can it help retain and hold the moisture that it creates naturally. So it looks dry, dull and very, very mature.

Let’s talk about actinic aging – that 90%. That 90% that we can impact. It is a by-product of being exposed to the environment. In the environment, we have exposure to free radicals – free radicals which are unstable oxygen molecules are what break down skin cells – break down internal cells. So you want to take this comprehensive approach to a new level with anti-oxidants.

Now let’s look at the “9” piece of this.  RE9 Advanced™ – nine key elements, all critical to the functional formulation process. Nanospheres - nanospheres are simply microscopic spheres that offer targeted release of beneficial ingredients deep into the skin’s surface. So, when you look at nanospheres and why we’ve incorporated them into these products, we want to target and deliver raw materials that truly work. And in this case, we are delivering anti-oxidant Vitamins A, C, and E.

Alpha-lipoic acid is also an antioxidant. What we want to do here is protect against oxidative stress. Let me give you a little bit of a visual here. If you cut an apple in half, and you put lemon juice, Vitamin C, on half of it, and let the other just sit out, what do you think would happen? The half that does not have lemon juice or Vitamin C citric acid would turn brown. That’s oxidative stress. If you take the half that has lemon juice on it, you‘ll see that it does not turn brown. That’s because that raw material, Vitamin C, ascorbic acid, citric acid, is protecting against oxidative stress.

AHA’s and BHA’s – what these are, are alpha hydroxy acids and beta hydroxy acids. Both these raw materials help skin cells turn over at a rapid pace. They are chemical exfoliators. And don’t let the word chemical scare you, because they’re made from natural fruit acids or salicylic acid – all natural raw materials. But what they do is, they help break down the glue that holds skin cells to the surface and so they release at a more rapid pace. It’s critical in the maintenance of a healthy pink fresh-looking skin that the cell turnover keep up with a rapid pace, so they are critical in a formulation to help, as we age, our ability to turn skin cells slows down. AHA’s and BHA’s will help that process turn over quicker.

Copper – copper is a trace mineral and copper is critical in the maintenance of a firm looking skin. It bolsters everything that helps the skin maintain a firm appearance. So it’s beneficial when you are trying to get a visually firm appearance in your skin, that you utilize raw materials that enhance that ability.

Cogic acid – cogic acid is a natural skin lightening agent. Now it’s not a skin whitener. It’s not an OTC or over-the-counter drug product that is going to bleach the skin. It’s simply a natural raw material that helps brighten and lighten dark spots on the skin, so you get a more vibrant appearance to the skin. So again, it’s a raw material, it’s natural and it helps brighten and lighten dark spots on the skin’s surface.

Peptides – peptides are critical piece of the fight in waging the war against the aging process. And what peptides are they are protein strands. And these protein strands, in a topical application, help the skin’s appearance by making the skin appear thicker when it’s healthier. It makes the skin appear more vibrant when it’s healthier. Peptides are one of the newest raw materials brought to the skin care arena. And combining that with the other nine key elements in a comprehensive approach in a targeted delivery system really enhances the skin’s ability to appear vibrant, to be visibly young and youthful.

Then we look at Stimutex and Alheven. And what these two raw materials do is help improve the skin’s ability to hold and retain moisture, to protect against transdermal water loss. It’s really, really important that as we age and the skin thins, that we do anything and everything that we can to encourage the skin’s ability to hold and retain moisture. These two raw materials – and you’ll see these functioning in a formulation that is much more in emollient, so that it sets up a protective barrier and allows the skin to hold and retain moisture. What this does is makes the skin appear more supple, more soft, more conditioned, more moisturized. Really two critical ingredients on aging mature skin.
